Green Light, Yellow Light, Red Light

Everyday when Katie is picked up from school her teacher Ms. Kathy always give us a little piece of paper that tells what they learned that day, if they took a nap, any special activities going on and if Kaite got a green light, yellow light or red light for the day. Green light means she was good that day, yellow light means something happened, normally just not listing and of course red lights means you just had a bad day. Katie always comes home with green lights and love to tells us that what she got for the day. Well, on Monday when Katie came in the door she walked up to me and told me she got a yellow light.I was impressed that she just admitted to and didn't wait until I looked at her paper. When she told me she started to cry asking if I was mad at her. I asked her why she got the yellow light and she said that Ms. Kathy asked her to "clean up like 5 times" and Katie said she didn't listen. I told Katie I wasn't mad but that she just needed to try better tomorrow. I got to thinking after that conversation with Katie and the fact that she was worried that I was going to be mad at here. I started thinking I wonder what type of lights we as adults we get if we were held to that same system by our boss, co-workers, friends, spouses or even our own kids. Hopefully, we would all get greens on most days but I know we all would have our yellow and definatley red light days. It makes it hard for me to get to upset with Katie for getting a yellow light one day out of how knows how many green light day since I know I wouldn't always get green lights myself.

Of course yesterday when I picked her up, she got a green light and was beyond excited to tell me she got it.
